Works of M’art has been professionally photographing animals, mainly various breeds of horses, since the early 1980’s. But we have another passion – photographing dogs – which had been (until recently) a well-kept secret in the Madison area. We live on ten acres outside of Columbus, Wisconsin, sharing our love of the country and its wide open spaces with our four dogs and two cats.

Jim and Marti of Works of M'Art!One of our dogs, Sylvia, has been a daily visitor at Lucky Dog for two years now. When she was a puppy, just for fun we snapped a few photos of her at play, and the soon the owners of the other Lucky Dog campers began requesting photos of their dogs as well. The four or five albums on display at the day camp now bulge with these photos, providing us the opportunity to display our work and Lucky Dog the chance to convey the fun and camaraderie shared by the dogs who attend Day Care. These dogs come to have fun, so the pictures are not posed shots, as you would find in a studio. The hair may be tousled, a dog may have just taken a dip in the pool or just finished digging a nice, muddy hole! Those of us who love our dogs just as they are – happy and having a good time – appreciate the candid beauty in shots like these.

In addition to the occasional photo shoots at Lucky Dog, we are also available to meet with dog owners with dog owners at an alternate location (Token Creek Park, the dog’s back-yard, etc.) for a photo-session of one or more animals. We restrict our work to outdoor photo-sessions because we feel the dogs are happier and more at ease than they would be in a hot, brightly lit studio. We don’t do studio photography because we feel we are better able to capture each dog’s unique personality in a more natural environment.

Our services are reasonably priced and the photos we take are sent to our clients in an attractive little album. These photos are theirs to keep with no further obligation, although reprints and/or enlargements may be ordered from any original photo at any time in the future. If you are interested in having us meeting with you to capture some special memories of your dog(s), please contact us for a current price sheet.
